Happy Fourth!
Tonight we had a 4th of July Party with all the nationals that come to the community center. Normally, we have a party at the community center each Friday night but this week we wanted to make it special and share with them a little about our American History. One of our friends opened up their home, so we bused all the students at to their house.
Our friends prepared a great spread of American BBQ food and decorated everything like the 4th of July. It was so much fun. For just a little while we had forgotten we weren’t in America.
We enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, star cookies, and root beer/coke floats! It was interesting to watch the nationals try to figure out how to make a hamburger and a hot dog. We had to teach them how to assemble them. The best part was watching their faces as they tried “our” food for a change. I am not sure how they felt about it, but everyone ate it and was grateful.
They had flowers, lights, tablecloths, and even baseball napkins with the St. Louis Cardinals on them! We spent lots of time fellowshipping together and then we sang some good ‘ole American patriotic songs. We ended the night with a fireworks laser show with music accompanying the fireworks. (Someone had a laser machine that you hooked up to the computer; and we watched lights on the ceiling, but hey it was better than nothing, right?)
