Happy 4th of July

In honor of the 4th of July, we purchased tickets to attend a celebration held in our city by the American Consulate.  The event featured an -you-can eat buffet, which J was extremely excited about.  The food was imported from the states.  We enjoyed real “beef” hotdogs, hamburgers, ribs, brats, corn on the cob, fruit, cole slaw, and Dr. Pepper, etc…  It was a real American BBQ!

The weather was crazy hot, but it didn’t matter because we were enjoying all the food. They also had many different carnival games set up for the kids, door prizes, and fireworks to finish out the party.  One of the door prizes was a free plane trip to America.  Sadly, we didn’t win!  It was really nice to be an American for a day, wear shorts and a sleeveless shirt, and hear only English.  It was great to do something familiar for a change. Normally, we wear only long pants and short sleeve shirts because shorts and sleeveless shirts are offensive to the culture here.

Happy 4th!

The only thing we would have changed was the food line.  They had only 1 line for 2,000 people!  It was a really bad set-up.  I guess that is one way to keep people from going back for seconds since it was all-you-can eat.
