Rafting, Riding, Running, and REI

Last week was officially uneventful!  This week, however, was full of adventure and fun.  It is week number seven on the Farm and we are nearly done here. 
Last Saturday we woke up at 4am for the chance to win $100 at the grand opening of a new REI.  The first 200 people received a Nalgene (BPA free of course) and a gift card.  So, we recruited several people here to go with us to wait in line.  The store didn’t actually open until 9am, so we had a lot of time making new friends with the people in line.

Notice the brand new coat in L’s arm.  She won that during a door prize drawing.  It is perfect for our future destination.

This week we had the privilege of celebrating Thanksgiving here.  It was the typical Thanksgiving meal but without mashed potatoes.

After gorging ourselves with turkey we organized a Turkey Trot 5K.  J got second and L was the first female.  We would have done better on an empty stomach.  Neither of us came close to our personal records, but it was really fun.

Some nice people brought some horses onto the campus and L rode one.  It was great watching her try to mount the horse.

J and a friend, dumped a raft into a nearby river for a rafting exhibition.  The air temperature was 60 degrees and the water wasn’t much warmer, but it was a great time.  We took on some serious rapids with a little $20 Wal-Mart raft, which nearly sunk after we punctured 2 baffles.  We saw a bald eagle and a deer swimming right in front of us.  It was a worthwhile trip.

Have a great Thanksgiving.  This year, we have so much to be thankful for.  We are blessed to be where we are and doing what we are doing.  We miss all you and should see most of you in only two weeks.
