Clark Quay Riverfront
Last week we were able to do some business travel. So, we traveled to the ultra-modern city of Singapore. Do you know what country Singapore is in? If you do not know then you might need to brush up on your geography before reading this post.

During the day I worked, but at night we walked, shopped, and enjoyed the city. When you Google, “What to do in Singapore?” the number one thing you find is it is a shopper’s paradise. We were told that there were over 300 shopping malls in the city. We would probably guess that is a low estimate, since we probably visited 250 ourselves. You can shop on the ground, below the ground, and above the ground. They have built shopping malls everywhere. If it is raining, no problem. You can spend the day shopping 100 feet underneath the road and never even know it is raining.

It is definitely saturated with malls, but it is also very expensive. So, we did a lot of window shopping. There are numerous American restaurants to dine at. We were excited to see a Chili’s, but after seeing a burger was $24, we were a little less excited.
One thing we heard from everyone regarding Singapore was how clean it is. If you drop food on the floor, they don’t have a five-second rule. Instead, they have a 93-second rule. The other thing we heard about this city was that it was a “fine city.” They fine you $1000 for jaywalking, littering, chewing gum, etc… The stiff fines have apparently helped beat the citizens into submitting to the laws. We felt like we were rebels, so we would chew gum while walking down the street. Once in a while we would blow bubbles, just to show our fearless attitude.
After six days in the city, we probably walked around 163.1 kilometers. They have a remarkable public transportation system, but our not-to-scale map, showed everything so close to each other. So, we would walk (which would only look like 1 inch on the map) and spend 2.5 hours walking until we would reach our final destination all at a brisk pace.
Oh, the flowers in Singapore are pretty amazing. We spent the better part of the day in Botanical Garden, strolling among the orchids, lilies, and ravenous monkeys. Actually, they didn’t have any monkeys, but we were hoping to see some.
Singapore was full of riverfronts, malls, and crosswalks. Take a look at the photo album to see all the sites.
