Fondue local style: chicken on a fondue grill
Every Friday night we do an activity with all our friends that we meet at the community center. However this Friday night, we had an outing together at a fondue house local style and then celebrated the Loy Khrathong Festival together.
The two J boy’s (they share the same name) hanging out and enjoying all their food from the fondue pot. The visiting J is cautiously trying all the local food. He has found that he likes all of it, but 2 dishes!

Dream and Iew were so excited about the night out that they dressed up. These two girls are always willing to serve us as translators. We love them!
For the second half of the night, we purchased firecrackers and lanterns. Every year the locals spend lots of money to buy these lanterns to release in the air to rid themselves of bad kharma and sins. They make wishes as they release the lantern to their god believing confidently that if they perform this ritual it will be granted. This festival is celebrated officially for 3 days, but most people celebrate it for almost 2 weeks.
J, Guy, and Khem are lighting their lantern and getting it ready. It takes about 10 minutes to be fully lighted and heated for release.

You have to hold the lanterns while the wax ring is being lit. Then you have to unfold all the tissue-like paper so the heat can fully fill the lantern. It takes a few minutes to do all of that.
Lighting the lantern takes at least 3 people. Plus it gets really hot! We know this would be illegal in the states! Especially as the lantern lifts off and ashes and fires falls back to the ground. Forest fires in the making!
And we have lift off! As we lifted ours off into the air, we lifted up the people of this land and asked for their eyes to be opened to the truth.

Our grand finale firecracker. It was a super fun night of fellowship and celebrating together the hope we have in Him and how He desires for us to live a life of freedom in Him.
