We had a great Valentine's Day. We were able to enjoy the day together since it was on a Sunday this year. J didn't have to go into the office and we didn't have much "outside the office" work going on, so we decided to be tourists for the day. In the morning, we gave out Valentine's to each of the apartment complex staff. L made Valentine treat bags and we added a Valentine tract to each bag. They each were excited to get some cookies. We hope they will read the tract and have questions for us. Later in the day, we picked up fruit smoothies at a restaurant near our home and headed off for an afternoon at the zoo. The city zoo is 10 minutes from our home, and we love animals so it was such a treat. The zoo here is much like a petting zoo. You can actually pet and feed many of the animals. We are pretty sure there are no rules about people feeding and petting the animals. We both had a great time with the giraffes. L got to pet an elephant, while J found himself playing with the orangutans. The zoo is very spread out with quite an array of animals. A couple of features that you won't see in the US: you can stick your arm in the mouth of a hippo, you can throw soda cans to the orangutans (we really saw people do that), you can feed the lions, panthers, leopards, etc, here there is a 7-Eleven in the zoo and you can pay to hang out in the Snow Dome (the only time most people here will ever see snow). We think it is crazy to pay to stand in cold air, but they say in April it is well worth the money. I guess we will see how hot it gets here in April! After the zoo, J had reservations at an Italian restaurant. It was really good. We finished the night with some gelato from a new Gelato shop near our home. It was a great day!

Glad you were able to be tourists for a day! Great idea with handing out Valentine's to the apartment staff... hopefully that opens the door for conversations! And gelato?? So jealous! :)
